Présentation
During transformation time after Soviet Union collapse a lot of trees were cut down (due to the energy crisis), gardens were not maintained and died out, a lot of fires killed trees in Urzhar area of East-Kazakhstan oblast. This area is the natural habitat of apple trees progenitor – red listed Malus sieversii. Keldimurat village located on the rose of wind and due to lack of wind-stop forest belts the lands around it suffer from the wind erosion. Climate change also influence on the decrease of water in the soil. Hilly areas are prone to water erosion. Project aim is to establish the nursery for wild apple Malus sieversii and forest nursery. Sidlings will be used to plant forest belts around fields (will help to decrease wind erosion), apple trees and wild trees and shrubs will be reestablished in its natural habitat (will help to decrease water erosion). This project will also contribute to the biodiversity conservation of the region.
