Présentation  : Since 2011, GAIN has been working with the National Committee for Food Fortification in Mozambique (CONFAM). The project has three main components—creation of legislation to make fortification of oil and wheat flour mandatory, supporting private-sector partners with access to food fortification equipment and access to premix, and behavioural change campaign materials.

Objectif  : The aim of the fortification of wheat flour and vegetable oil project is to :
•Reach more than 7 million children under 14 and women by 2015
•Reduce the prevalence of micronutrient deficiencies among the general population by introducing and scaling up the fortification of industrially processed cereal flours, particularly wheat flour, and edible oils
•Increase the regular consumption of fortified foods among women of reproductive age and children under 5
•Fortify 95% of wheat flour milled for bread production with iron, zinc, B12 and folic acid, and 95% of oil refined in Mozambique with vitamin A

Partenaires : The project is implemented by Hellen Keller International in partnership with Population Services International (PSI), World Vision International and the World Food Programme (WFP). The project supports the National Committee for Food Fortification (CONFAM), which includes representation from the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, as well as private-sector partners—wheat flour millers and vegetable oil producers.
