Pastoralist’ key role to conflict resolution and peace building Pastoralism is based on livestock rearing for their livelihoods. It is a mode of production common to Arid and Semi Arid Lands (ASAL) which are characterized by low and erratic rainfall. Seasonal migration of pastoralists and their animals is designed to minimize environmental damage and enable pastures to recover. It is thus an adaptation to the harsh climatic conditions.

To empower pastoralists to influence the constitutional implementation process to take cognizance of pastoralists’ centrality and key role to conflict resolution. PDNK (Pastoralist Development Network of Kenya) will train pastoralist community’s leaders on issues affecting them so as to empower them and ensure their engagement in policy formulation forums. During this period PDNK will ensure that there is an informed pastoralist constituency as possible, to guarantee that the electorate can be able to effectively articulate its issues and concerns.
