Microcredit for small farmers (Bolivia)

Catholic Organisation for Relief and Development Aid (CORDAID) Netherlands

Titre : Microcredit for small farmers (Bolivia)

Région/Pays : Bolivie

Code : Project ID 105391

Durée : Project period 01-05-2011 to 01-03-2018

For a better income and more financial security for their families In Bolivia, 82 percent of farmers in rural areas live below the poverty line. To support them we are investing money in microfinancing institution (MFI) Sembrar Sartawi. Our investments are mainly for the benefit of entrepreneurs active in small-scale agrarian production and cattle breeding and trading. Tailored microcredit loans and insurance policies are extended to their farming businesses.

Thanks to these microcredit loans, entrepreneurs in rural areas can count on better incomes and more financial security for their families. They can also close life-, multi risk- or cattle-insurance policies so that they and their families will be less vulnerable to unforeseen situations, such as natural disasters.
For environmental reasons, this MFI also intends to train farmers in sustainable agricultural practices, as well as helping farmers organize themselves into cooperatives, so they can sell their products easier and get a better price for them.

Mise en œuvre : Sembrar Sartawi

Financement : Cordaid ; Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Total budget : € 800,000
Funding through Cordaid : € 800,000
