Send a poor child to an agricultural school (Burkina Faso)

Burkina Faso

Titre : Send a poor child to an agricultural school (Burkina Faso)

Région /Pays : Burkina Faso

Zone d’intervention : Hauts-Bassins, Burkina Faso

Dates : 09/01/2013 à 11/13/2015

Programme
This project provides scholarships for poor children (50% girls) of rural villages in Burkina Faso. It gives them the opportunity to attend an agriculture-focused secondary school located in south western Burkina Faso.
Public secondary education quality is very poor and not adapted for children in the rural villages in Burkina Faso. Only 1 in 10 students finish school ; and those that manage to attend find it to be a waste of time and money. The current secondary school education has an 80% drop out rate ; and does not provide students with practical and applicable knowledge relative to the environment they come from and their prospects.
The LAP School was created specifically to provide technical and academic skills to its students. The curriculum is focused on the agriculture industry. The 4 year boarding school education graduates students prepared to make their way in a predominantly rural society as farm managers, farm owners, or in other capacities in the agro-industry.
Classroom curriculum consists of general studies, agronomy, animal husbandry, computer science courses and electives.
