Résumé

The research was carried out to determine the effects of sowing rate on plant characteristics, forage and seed yield of legume forage plant narbon vetch which is native to Anatolia, winter hardy and capable to grow in arid and semi-arid conditions. Seven sowing rates (10, 12.5, 15, 17.5, 20, 22.5 and 25 kg/da) were tested in the experiment which is designed in randomise complete block with three replications and conducted in the experimental fields of Department of Agronomy, Faculty of Agricultire, University of Ankara during the 2000-2001 growing season. Half of the plots were harvested at full flowering stage for herbage yield and the other half was grown for seed, which were harvested when the pods became yellow-brown. According the results, the narbon vetch grown with different sowing rates had plant height between 63.80 - 71.60 cm, stem diamater between 5.67 - 6.77 mm, main stem number between 1.73 - 2.60 unit/plant, pod length between 6.50-6.93 cm, pod number per plant between 15.47 - 23.47 unit/plant, seed number per pod between 4.67 -5.13 unit, fresh yield 690.4 - 1 1 14. 1 kg/da, hay yield between 158.49-254.10 kg/da, dry matter ratio between 22.00% - 23.73%, seed yield between 86.52 - 137.48 kg/da and thousand seed weight between 193.26-261.39 g Sowing rate affected the fresh herbage yield, dried herbage yield and seed yield statistically. Higher herbage and seed yield on narbon vetch were obtained with using of 17.5 kg/da and above 17.5 kg/da sowing rate.
