Résumé

This study in general investigates the history of Dersim and also in particular seeks to analyze the tribes which settled in the region of Dersim/Tunceli, and which their relations with Ottoman Empire and their socio-cultural structures. In this study, the knowledges about the tribes, has been taken from both Tahrir books and Mühimme books, also from archival resources and reports which are dated from 18th and 20th centuries. Furthermore, it has been benefited from the memoirs of civil, military and foreign personnages.As it is seen from this study which was written in the light of resources, the present knowledges concerning the tribes of Dersim region are quite incomplete and false. This situation, stems from the fact that most of the researches which have been done about the area were not carried out according to scientific data, but they were carried out on the basis of political approaches. As far as the results of our study, significant part of the tribes of Dersim region historically and culturally has a Turkmen origin. Socio-cultural structure of the region caused by geographic shape, influence the tribes. Particularly these tribes which have no intercourse with external environment and cultures, preserved their traditional structures ; they have relatively variet in comparison with the other modified settlers. In fact, even at the beginning of the 20th century, the traditions, social structure and the language which is used within Dersim tribes, old Turkish nomadism has been kept in a lively manner.
