Descriptif
Farming systems research has indicated a widespread understanding amongst local farmers of the need for timely inter-row cultivation for both weed control and for keeping a rough soil surface which can retain rainfall (Mudhara & Ellis-Jones, 1993). In order to identify which systems are appropriate and acceptable to the farmer comparisons of traditional farming practices and technologies developed in Conservation Tillage Phase I (R4838) and selected by the farmer need to be researched at a farmer managed field level, rather than a researcher managed plot level. This project aims to evaluate the soil water conservation and weeding options that the farmers have selected and compare them with farmers’ existing practices.
