Titre : Agroforestry and mycorrhizae research for semi-arid lands of East Africa (AMSAL) Phase II

Pays : Kenya

Projet de recherche pour le Développement : R4730

DFID Programme : Forestry

Organismes de mise en œuvre
Lead Institutes : Institute of Terrestrial Ecology (ITE)
Managing Institutes : Natural Resources International Limited (NRIL)

Durée : Start Date : 01-06-1991 End Date : 31-05-1992

Objectif
The objectives of the project were : * To monitor the effects of mycorrhizal inoculation upon field performance of trees and their intercrops. * To develop further vegetative propagation techniques. * To bulk up clonal material for clonal selection trials. * To examine genetic variation in physiological characteristics. * To assess variation in clone X symbiont interactions. * To assess mycorrhizal dependency of a range of tree species.

Descriptif
The original project (Phase I) was set up to increase the establishment and growth of tree/food plant mixtures by combining studies on propagation and selection of locally-important multi-purpose tree species with studies of the microbial symnionts which are essential for growth. This project (Phase II) is a continuation of Phase I.
