Objectifs
The objective of this cooperative research project is to sequence the genome of the Mediterannean fruit fly, Ceratitis capitata, and to assemble these sequences so that subsequent annotation and functional analysis of the genomic sequences may be acheived. This project will also provide the basis for sequencing other important tephritid pest species

Descriptif
Sequencing will be performed using the 454 XLR-high density pyrosequencing system. The initial phase of the project will support sequencing and sequence assembly of approximately seven full-chip production runs yielding approximately 2,800 million nucleotide sequences, representing 40% of a complete genome sequence project (assuming a final goal of a 12-fold sequencing coverage of the 540Mb genome). Genomic sequence assembly will be acheived by computational analyses.
