Résumé
This research presents algorithms for interpolating the spatial variability sediment thickness needed to evaluate the status of a sediment trap. The techniques were applied using observations measured at 298 locations in a 200 ha region of Shiraz, Iran. Jackknifing validation was used to compare the prediction performances of the three geostatistical interpolation algorithms : ordinary kriging, ordinary kriging with anisotropy and simple kriging with varying local means and three straightforward univariate techniques : classification, inverse square distance and Thiessen polygons. The straightforward univariate techniques do not spatial autocorrelation and they yield larger prediction errors. Simple kriging with varying local means was found to perform best. The interpolated values were exported to the Arcview GIS in order to produce the final sediment thickness map. In this study the interpolated data by simple kriging with varying local means were used for calculating the volume of the sediments
