Résumé
Truss tomato plants (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill. cv. Clotilde) were grown in a semi-practical greenhouse compartment in Beitem, Belgium in 2006. Eight plants were separately grown in a deep-film technique. Drought stress was induced to 4 plants by dissolving PEG 6000 in the nutrient solution resulting in an decrease in the osmotic water potential from -0.24 to -0.86 MPa. Leaf temperature, stem diameter variations and sap-flow rate were automatically recorded. Drought stress could be detected, when the actual leaf temperature is 1 °C higher than the simulated leaf temperature. Hourly changes in stem diameter with a value of more than 40 µm· h-1 indicated lack of internal water storage pools. A lack of water in the root-zone environment was also immediately detected by the sap-flow measurements. However, no diagnostic criteria based on sap-flow rate have been proposed yet
