Résumé
Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) is a yet little cultivated species in the Planalto Central Cerrado even though it is considered the third most import legume in the world with an cultivated area of 12 million hectares. Chickpea is used for food, industry and therapeutic purposes. Brazilian chickpea consumption is limited due to high prices and lack of domestic production. The aim of the present study was to investigate yield potential and selection of genetic materials with superior characteristics for Cerrado under drought and irrigated conditions. The first trial was setup using thirteen genotypes from different origins and two varieties (recommended as checks), planted in three sowing times at the Embrapa Vegetables in Brasilia under drought conditions. The second trial was set up in an irrigated area with a central pivot system in Cristalina, GO in sowing times using the same genotypes. The genotypes FLIP03-109C, FLIP02-23C and FLIP06-34C proved to be superior to both checks with desirable morph agronomic characteristics in both production systems. These genotypes were indicated for Cerrado cultivation. The BG1392, Cicero, Blanco Sinaloa 92 and Jamu 96 even with lower yields but with good grain, characteristics, may be recommended for use in chickpea breeding programs. Sowing of January and April showed better results in the drought and irrigated systems, respectively.
