Description
This doctoral thesis describes the improvement of Bambara groundnut production in Northern Namibia. Collection of Bambara groundnut germ plasm and its agronomic characterization has been performed. Pure lines have been developed through single plant selection and progeny testing. The breeding efforts have been supported by agronomic evaluation trials on-station and on-farm, and investigations, which targeted factors influencing germination and yield formation. The process was guided by the input of Bambara groundnut producers, consumer and traders and can therefore be described as a participatory plant breeding approach. The activities have also been converted into a participatory breeding model
