RESEARCH OBJECTIVES
Research objectives of this study are of a planning nature. They seek to determine the optimum or most profitable resource use combinations and cropping patterns within and between individual farms in La Begona district when irrigation water becomes available in 196 8. The information obtained could provide a basis or guide to technical and extension personnel for assisting La Begona farmers in shifting from dryland to irrigated cropping operations. An additional objective is that of demonstrating the usefulness and limita tions of mathematical optimizing techniques employing high speed computers within a planning framework for possible use on other future planning projects conducted by the Mexican government or modification of present Plan Lerma objectives. The specific objectives of this study are classified into two groups : intra- or within farm and inter- or between farm objectives.
