Résumé
The main objective of this investigation was to compare soil respiration in a shrubland of the Mediterranean Desertic-Oceanic biclimatic region of Chile in natural condition and afforested with Acacia saligna.. The specific objectives were : · Identify the major environmental factors controlling of daily variability of soil respiration. · Quantify soil CO2 efflux during dry season. The results show that in a dry year, soil respiration was related to temperature and relative humidity. Soil respiration was low in both sites, mainly due to the drought affecting the region. The natural site higher CO2 fluxes than the afforested one (p < 0,05), probably as a result of surface of bare soil, a lower content of organic matter in the soil and to lower growth rate and survival of A. saligna. In both sites, soil respiration decreased as Julian Day increased. This was most evident between measurements of dates 2 and 3, coinciding with the seasonal change from summer to autumn. This research was carried out in part of the dry season, therefore it is advisable to monitor other seasons.
