Résumé
The High Basin of Juramento is one of the water systems of the North-West of Argentina that it is part of the Plata River Basin. This paper is the first integral limnological study of lentic and lotic systems in the basin. It proposes a categorization of the different sub-basins according with the degree of environmental affectation considering several ecological indexes. The majority of the aquatic environments showed a low N/P relationship, that it is characteristics of subtropical environment of the region. The hydrographic conditions of the rivers affected the phytoplankton structure and productivity. It was the result of a direct relation between the lower level of unloading and the increase of the biomass during the low level water, meanwhile the perturbations during the flooding periods induce to a high diversity and specific evenness. The auto-purification process were affected by the existence of fluvial courses with low to moderate environmental capacity during the low level water. The β to α- mesosaprophytic condition was generalizable. The floristic composition and the algae abundance of the rivers and dams showed a great correspondence. Considering that this system is regulated, the management of the hydrometric level of the reservoirs can to compromise the ecological integrity of both systems. The punctual and diffuse activities that are developed in the Arias-Arenales and Toro-Rosario sub-basins contribute with a great proportion of the organic load and nutrients by surface unit by year.
