Résumé
The issue of climate efficient architecture in the present work explores how the architecture operates in relation to climate, and in this regard how the energy demand of buildings would be affected. The energy consumption of buildings forms a large part of the world’s total energy consumption. The reduction of energy consumption in building sector generates growing attention in Iran after the reformation of energy subsidies in recent years. The massive population growth in Iran in the last thirty years has led to planning and partly implementation of new settlements such as 30 new towns. These plans are at a critical point concerning the future energy consumption of Iran, which is mainly dependent on fossil fuels. The present work investigates the impacts of climate efficiency on reducing the energy demand of residential buildings in Iran on the basis of vernacular architecture. This topic will be considered in two aspects : on the one hand, it studies the design features, which minimize the environmental stress, on the other hand it investigates, how the available natural energy sources, such as wind and solar energy, are used to improve the comfort conditions. This work refers to the hot-dry region, which constitutes the largest climatic region of Iran. There are 38 case studies from five reference cities selected from this region to b analyzed. In parallel, a detailed literature research was conducted. An interdisciplinary structure is developed for this research. It includes the issues, which can directly or indirectly influence the energy demand of buildings. The results are illustrated on the example of the most developed new town of Iran "Hashtgerd New Town", which represents the typical structure of contemporary residential building in Iran. Methodical procedure is as follows : - Analysis of the existing climate classifications defining the research area - Analysis of the trend of climate change and its impact on future architecture - Identification and analysis of the conditions and demands of traditional residential buildings, - Identification and analysis of the dimensions of the traditional residential buildings on urban level, building level, construction level and technical level on the basis of case studies and findings from the literature, - Comparison of the analyzed aspects in the circumstances of contemporary residential building based on the example of “Hashtgerd New Town”, - Conclusion of the energy-related measures and developing new implementation guidelines based on the example of “Hashtgerd New Town” regarding the current economic and social circumstances. The traditional buildings are proved for the first time as a central resource for the development of climate-efficient measures with this structure. The results show that design criteria of the vernacular buildings reduce the environment stress, use the natural energy sources to provide comfort conditions and thus contribute to minimize the energy demand of buildings. The results of this work can be used to develop new settlements in hot-dry regions of Iran.
