Présentation
Having realized the importance of natural resources in sustainable economic development, the members of Seven village organizations (have been grazing their livestock and collecting wood from Khunjerab National Park) have formed a joint management committee for scientific Management of the Khunjerab National Park Buffer Zone. The seven villages, namely, Galapan, Morkhon, Jamalabad, Gircha, Sirtige, Nazimabad and Sostare situated at the northern tip of Hunza valley, adjacent to Khunjerab National Park. Prior to construction of KKH, the whole Gojal area (including the seven villages) would exclusively depend on the natural resources for their subsistence, and therefore the people have acquired a life long experience of tapping natural reso1Jrces to meet their basic needs. The opening of KKH has created lot of opportunities for off-farm employment. On one hand the off-farm employment opportunities have reduced dependence on natural resources, on the other hand the rapid growth of human population has decreased the land holdings and forced the people to manage the wildlife and other natural resource for their sustenance.
