The project was modelled on the successful Southern Uplands Rural Development Project – Phase II. The project area included ten districts in the Dhamar and Sana’a governorates. Activities provided for : •construction of extension centres, block centres and housing for block centre staff •equipment and staff for the extension centres •technical assistance for training •inputs and equipment for training extension agents and farmers •15 water supply schemes •technical assistance to strengthen project administration and expand the irrigated area

The project had a positive impact on agricultural production. It was successful in enlisting the assistance of Local Councils for Cooperation Development in implementing its rural women’s programme.
