Description
This pilot study will be aimed at the conservation of the lions in the Kalahari region of Botswana. The study site is the Khutse Game Reserve where lions are known to leave the park frequently and kill livestock. The aim of the study is to identify patterns in this behaviour which make it predictable and thus help local farmers to protect their livestock. Together with new protection methods for livestock and the epidemiological analysis of disease of lions living inside and outside the park, this study will help to maintain a healthy lion population and reduce the conflicts between humans and wildlife in the central Kalahari region.
