This dissertation was written as a part of the MSc in Energy Systems at the In-ternational Hellenic University. The dissertation studies the urban microclimate and outdoor thermal comfort conditions and defines the relationship between them. The study is carried out at two outdoor spaces of different characteristics situated in the Municipality of Kalamaria in the city of Thessaloniki, Greece. The two areas are of different characteristics. The City Hall Square is a concrete paved square with limited green and the old tobacco warehouses is an open green space with lots of trees. The climatic parameters in the two areas were monitored during the summer and the outdoor thermal comfort conditions that exist in these areas were eval-uated through questionnaires in order to define the correlation between the ur-ban microclimate and outdoor thermal comfort and to compare the findings. Further the research of this study concentrates on the influence of green areas as well as structure materials on the microclimate and the thermal comfort con-ditions in the City Hall Square. A sensitivity analysis was conducted with the use of the ENVI-met simulation model in order to evaluate the parameters that influ-ence thermal comfort and the influence green areas and surface materials have on the microclimate. Apart from the sensitivity analysis, other improvement measures are proposed.
