Présentation
Rayalaseema is a dry region located in the rain shadow region of western
ghats and is most vulnerable to droughts and famines. The mean annual rainfall
of the region is 670 mm. The distribution of rainfall has wide variations spatially
over the study area increasing from northwest to southeast. Out of the four
districts of Rayalaseema, Anantapur is the driest and Chittoor is the wettest.
The mean annual rainy days for the region as a whole is 40 days. The region
experiences high variability of rainfall as it is semiarid region.
The temporal distribution of rainfall reveals some significant characteristics
with regard to the dominant range of rainfall for each district, the variations in
annual, decadal and seasonal trends of rainfall and fluctuations in the amount
of rainfall over different climatic periods.
