Bijapur district is the matter of con- to wdal dentists including
population geographers. There is an unevcn gmwth and
concentration of population in different talukas of Bijapur district.
The prcasure of population on land and its rcaoums, haa, posed an
atray of problems of economic, soctal and political concern. The
geographer ie naturally involved In dealing with the problems in the
study region and their inhabitants.

The present dudy is an attempt to assem ’Melopmcnt of
Human remums in drought prone area of Bijapur district, from
195 1 to 199 1. The main objectives are -
1) To study the growth, density and distribution of population.
2) To study the occupational structure, literacy, age and sex
composition of Bijapur district.
3) To write a demographic account of eringle village : Kuligcri
(Badami district).
4) To write meaningful findings to solve problems of population In
Bijapur district.
The main source of data for analysis is from census volume of
1951 to 1991 and other murcea. I have also collected a lot of
literature from Bangdoit University Library and Population and
Economic &=arch Centre, Bangalom.
The methodoloey adoptad is bed on aimpk sUti$tid analyda
and epptieation d potential model. The mapa and dialpam dmwn
have helped the nmnher to explain spatio-temporal variations of
popukbn data, The fWd work method is exhibited in the
diwrbtlon by way of writing a dmqmphk account on KuUperi
village (Badad taluk).
Bdapur dlstrict in the northern part of the State fall8 in the
northern maidan of Karnataka. Bijapur district is eelected as a study
erea becaua d its gcqgaphiicol vastilea (fmt ranking in spatial siee
among 25 di tricts of Karnatak4, rich aoil rcwurces and frequent
effects of droughts.
