Drought stress is a major factor limiting productivity of the two very important pulses namely soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.) and chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.). Both the crops get severely affected by the drought stress at one or the other stage of their development. Maximum loss of yield due to drought occurs at reproductive phase that leads to abortion of flowers, pods and reduced size of seeds thus causing significant reduction in yields of these crops.

The present study was undertaken with following aims :- (i) To assess the damage caused by drought stress during reproductive growth (ii) To evaluate the stress sensitivity of different stages of reproductive phase (iii) To compare the response of differentially stress-sensitive genotypes (iv) To find out the involvement of cytokinins (CKs) in reducing stress injury to reproductive structures.
