Présentation
Objectifs : To improve food security, sustainable livelihood development and resilience of Afar Region pastoralists, agropastoralists and peri-urban communities through the promotion of appropriate technologies, livelihood diversification, capacity building, improved value chains and sound management of the resource base.
Activités : Supported the rehabilitation of 450 ha of degraded rangeland. •Constructed two livestock water points with a combined capacity of 23 918 m3. •Provided veterinary supplies necessary for the treatment of 59 875 heads of livestock belonging to 5 988 households. •Trained 88 community animal health workers and 108 public animal health workers on livestock disease surveillance and reporting. •Developed a disease control strategy for peste des petits ruminants in Afar Region. •Rehabilitated a pump house, installed and upgraded a pump system, and constructed pipelines and canals for the Halbi kebele irrigation scheme. •Distributed maize, onion and tomato seeds, tuber planting materials and banana suckers to 3 821 agropastoral households (1 004 female-headed). •Constructed 50 silos for grain storage. •Assisted value chain enhancement and improving production practices with the Small Ruminant Conditioning and Marketing Cooperative and the Dairy Products Processing and Marketing Cooperative.
