Présentation

A cross - sectional study was conducted to provide information on the epidemiology of foot and mouth disease in Northern Jordan. Multistage sampling method was used to select sheep from sheep flocks of all 4 governorates of Northern Jordan. These sheep flocks selected according to the weighted distribution of sheep flocks and number of sheep in each governorates. Eighteen flocks were selected from Irbid, 32 flocks from Mafraq and 2 flocks from each Jarash and Ajloun. A total of 446 serum samples were collected from sheep flocks during August-September, 2000. Serum samples were examined by liquid phase blocking ELISA for antibodies against FMD virus types O, A and Asia1, and by indirect ELISA for antibodies to the non-structural protein 3ABC. Jordan employed prophylactic vaccination against type O in sheep flocks.
