Résumé
Oregano (Poliomintha longiflora Gray) is a natural resource in arid and semi-arid regions of northern Mexico. This plant, provides economic resources to people of low income. However, harvest of wild plant has caused excessive overexploitation endangering their sustainability.
In the same way, like other plants of economic importance, oregano needs research to find the technology to cultivate this plant as a crop.
In the present work, two farming systems (field conditions and under mesh shade) of oregano (Poliomintha longiflora Gray) were established. A plant density of 15 900 plants ha-1 was used, with a row spacing of 133 cm and 47 cm between plants. The experiment was established under a completely random experimental design, using an experimental unit of 5 plants and 10 replications. Sampling was done before flowering during the four seasons, measuring plant height, crown diameter, production of fresh matter, dry matter (leaves and stems), leaf dry weight, yield and quality of essential oil.
The analysis of variance showed that in the summer season mesh shade had higher means for : fresh production, dry production and dry weight of leaf also ; also differences were found between the production system for height and crown diameter of air and essential oil production. The analysis of tymol and carvacrol were made to 20 % of the samples and showed higher concentrations in spring and the carvacrol was presented in higher concentrations in the field cropping system
