Purposes and Study Method : A methodology is proposed for spatiotemporal modeling of vegetation and landuse change for a portion of the North Central Mexico : San Luis PotosI. Spatial analysis, statistical modeling and satellite imagery processing were included as main methods.
Contribution and Conclusions : The Chapter 1 presents a general state of the art of land use science, general aspects of monitoring land use changes and existing techniques for determining the suitability of land. The Chapter 2 studied land use change with emphasis on the process of deforestation occurred during the period 19932007 using map matching techniques. The Chapter 3 examined the response of vegetation to precipitation with moderate spatial resolution hypertemporal remote sensing ; a total of 489 images of the product MCD43A4 MODIS (500 m spatial resolution) for 11 years during the period 2000 to 2010 were used to build time-series. The Chapter 4 studied the susceptibility to deforestation of remaining forest ecosystems using logistic regression to relate social, investment, forest production, biophysical and proximity factors as explanatory variables. Methods used in this dissertation represent an interesting attempt to understand the dynamics of forest resources in San Luis Potosi, México in the recent past.
