Présentation
BORAVAST Community Resource Management Trust which comprises of the villages of Bokspits, Rapplespan, Vaalhoek and Struiseindam intends on undertaking a project that aims at having a dialogue and building consensus through a workshop on the identification of the long term system to use on the management and control of Mesquite (Prosopis glandulosa). Mesquite is a thorny shrub or tree that has and is continuing to change tje Molopo river basin and surrounding rangelands in Southern Botswana into dense thorn bushes that seriously degrade rangelands and reduce biodiversity. It is allelopathic and as such out-competes species grazed by livestock. In addition, it has been found to cause allergic diseases in humans. Circumstantial evidence suggests that it may also be lowering important fresh-water aquifers and clogging boreholes with its extensive root system.
