Présentation
Lake Bey ?ehir and its basin is one of the few most important and delicate ecosystem of Turkey in terms of flora and fauna it hosts but, because of the surrounding socio-economic activities it has come to the point of serious damage. In addition to various protection status and the efforts of related institutions for protection of the Lake and its environment, important tasks should also be undertaken by individuals as well as voluntarily operating non-governmental organizations in this field.
The evolving means of transportation and communication in recent years and biodiversity and recreation facilities of the site increases the number of visitors to the region. Considering the tourism potential of the region, damage of tourism activities on this sensitive ecosystem as experienced in other sectors like agriculture, industry etc. is very likely unless necessary measures to orient tourism activities towards eco-tourism are taken on time.
Ye ?ilda ? District on the southwest coast of the Lake Bey ?ehir is located at 31 Km west of Bey ?ehir Town. A tiny valley covered witht junipers (Juniperus communis) next to the District hosts the nests of stork colonies which visit the site every summer. This cute site known as the Ye ?ilda ? Valley of Storks is being visited by increasing number of visitors interested in bird waching. Experts from our Association and the representatives of Bey ?ehir Municipality visited the site in order to determine physical and manegerial measures for protection of this frigale ecosistem with particular attention to storks, and made them subject of this project.
