Irbid, Jordan 7–11 October 2017

First International Conference (WMAL2017)

This conference aims to be one of the leading international conferences for promoting sustainable water management and improving livelihood of people in arid lands.

Lieu et date : Irbid, Jordan 7–11 October 2017

Organisation  : Jordan University of Science & Technology

People living in arid and semi-arid regions in general and in the Middle East in particular are struggling to secure water and make an adequate living. Population growth is making things worse. Climate change aggravates the problem of water supply that required careful and innovative management strategies for the limited water resources in arid regions. A conference dealing with water management in arid and semi-arid will be organized in Jordan, which is one of the poorest countries in water resources in the world. Management of its water and agricultural resources may represent a real challenge to scientists and managers all over the world. The flux of refugees demands rapid and long-term solutions to secure additional and non-conventional water resources and requires innovative management strategies. New approaches and policies are urgently needed. The conference will bring up local as well as international researchers, senior scientists, policymakers, and other stakeholders from all over the world dealing with water resources management in arid lands. The conference will serve as a wide-ranging forum for exchange of innovative approaches and novel knowledge and experience in water and cropping management, water efficiency, hydrological processes, soil and water conservation, agricultural engineering, wastewater treatment and reuse and socio-economic water studies related to arid land.

The objective of the conference is to bring together scientist, policymakers, water and agricultural managers and farmers to present and share their knowledge, polices, initiatives, case studies, innovative solutions to better manage water and agricultural input to promote sustainable water management and improve livelihood of people.

The topics of the symposium should be related in general to water and resources management in arid and semi-arid lands and should include any activity related to water supply, demand, usage and efficiency in the arid environment including but not limited to :
* Hydrological Processes • Flood water and rainwater harvesting • Flash flood prediction and management • Hydrological processes in arid conditions • Groundwater recharge • Climate change and variability • Urban floods • Domestic water management and supply
* Soil and Water Conservation • Soil erosion and conservation • Rain-fed agriculture • Drought and desertification • Water conservation measures
* Agricultural Engineering and Management • Irrigation management • Agricultural practices • Crop production in desert climate • Crop production with saline water • Organic Waste management • Food trade and virtual water
* Water Treatment and Technology • Wastewater treatment • Treated wastewater reuse • Water quality and pollution control • Non-conventional water • Water/Energy/food nexus
* Socio-Economic Water Studies • Education • Water and communities • Humanitarian crisis and water • Water policy and governance
