Résumé
The border region comprising the cities of Tijuana, Mexico and San Diego, USA represents one of the most dynamic geographic spaces in the world, are highlighted social and economic interactions that link the two urban spaces ; however, there are obstacles in the planning process and cross-border cooperation limiting more efficient cross-border urban integration that allows better interaction between both sides of the border. The aim of this thesis is to analyze the process of cooperation and planning in the cities of Tijuana and San Diego, as well as the formation of these as a border region characterized by strong interdependence, which is linked through a road infrastructure system and the border crossings. This requires a review of major planning mechanisms holding institutions like the Association of Governments of San Diego ( SANDAG ) or Metropolitan Planning Institute of Tijuana ( IMPLAN ) to name a few will be made. Added to this semi -structured strategic actors of these institutions in order to know the actions that have been made to achieve planning to allow better integration between the two cities interviews were held. This aims to contribute to the expansion of the academic background of planning and crossborder cooperation and a better understanding of the dynamics that shape the urban space border in Tijuana San Diego region.
