Résumé
Were studied two natural populations of Pinus coulteri D. Don of Baja California, in order to determine the magnitude of the variation between and within populations in nine morphological and seven anatomical variables of needles. Sampling was selective across populations, with a sample size of 24 trees to Santa Catarina and 17 for Rancho San Faustino. A normality test was performed for each of the variables, it was estimated the values of central tendency and dispersion. An analysis of variance and other variance components considering a mixed effects model was developed. We also performed multivariate principal component analysis to determine the variables that contribute more to the variation. The analysis of variance showed statistically significant differences between populations in 9 of 16 variables. The seven variables that were not significantly different are needle length, needle width, sheath width, number of rows of stomata on the bundle, number of stomata on the underside in a millimeter, vascular bundle length including endodermal cells and bundle width including vascular endodermal cells. The main components show that the first three components explain 73% of the total variance. In the least significant difference test and the principal component can be clearly seen that the variables that contributes to the variation between populations are rows and number of stomata present in the needles.
