Résumé
Dryland as a whole includes hyper-arid, arid, semi-arid and dry sub-humid regions forming a highly significant global environment. They occupy 50% of the land area and support 20% of the world’s population. Arid and semi-arid areas are usually characterized by strong climatic contrasts and rivers suffering seasonal drought and occasional precipitation. Although these characteristics are not unique to arid and semi-arid areas, they share many attributes that place them outside the normal range of humid and temperate climate zones and merit separate study. In many arid and semi-arid areas throughout the world, there exist many serious water-related problems that need hydrological analyses, such as devastating extreme hydrological phenomenon (flood and drought). Distributed Hydrological Model (DHM) has, in principle, the advantage of spatially reflecting hydrological responses of basin, which is important for the Integrated River Basin Management. However, in the current models, some fundamental problems are still far from being solved for arid and semi-arid areas. Almost all distributed hydrological models have been primarily developed for humid area. Arid and semi-arid areas have particular challenges that have received little attention. Therefore, the development of distributed hydrological models and their subsequent application to arid and semi-arid basins is an urgent task. Based on these considerations, the purpose of this study is to focus on arid and semi-arid hydrology through the development and application of some new methods to deal with main challenges in this environment
