Résumé
This thesis presents a preliminary assessment of the hydro-geological characteristics of a karst mountainous catchment, the Lar river catchment in the north east of Tehran (capital of Iran), the catchment is located at 2400-5670 meter above sea level and covers an area of 740(km^2) and exposed limestone occupies 33% of total area. Various types of assessments, have been carried out, including analysis of karst related features from aerial photo, satellite image, geological map and fieldwork. Water quality and quantity characteristics were investigated with respect to catchment characteristics and integrated in GIS. And hydrograph analysis was done to estimate ground water contribution to stream flow. Demonstrated is the importance of structural geological elements, such as lineaments and faults, in explaining the patterns of the springs. Spring discharges could not be explained in terms of local ground water flow systems. It is probable that ground water transfers in the sub catchments of the Lar occur through karst and fracture/fault conduits, and therefore exchange of water with adjoining catchments should not be exclude
