Présentation
To promote conservation of deteriorating beaches in Sengerema District through community action.
Implementation Strategies : 1. Select three beaches for demonstration. One beach in each target ward 2. Sensitize community leaders, BMU leaders, fishermen and fisherwomen on the need to conserve the beaches 3. Support local communities to construct demo VIP latrines, laundry slabs and bathrooms 4. Promote tree planting and grass seeding along the Lake shores 5. Strengthen Village NRM Committees and BMUs for sustainable management of the beaches.
Project Sustainability Strategies : • Training to local communities, community leaders and BMU leaders provides results to perpetuity • In tree planting, priority will be given to fruit trees, which will give food and incomes • VIP latrines and bathrooms will charge user fees. This will generate income to the local community.
Anticipated project results : • Capacity building on responsible beach management will transform lifestyles of local communities to adopt an environmentally responsible lifestyles • Project interventions will lead to cleaner and well conserved beaches • Use of latrines, planting of grass and trees on the shoreline and use of organic fertilizers by lake adjacent farms will improve the quality of water in the Lake.
