Football for Water in Mozambique (VEI

Titre : Football for Water in Mozambique (VEI)

Pays/Région : Mozambique

Date 30-Jun-2018 // 31-Dec-2018

In 2017, an evaluation carried out by VEI in Mozambique showed that to obtain sustainability, additional investments are recommended. Although schools have water facilities, these are affected by poor water supply. For hand washing, the evaluation also made clear the current constructed facilities are not functional. Because the enrolment of pupils at the schools have increased, constructed toilet facilities are not adequate. At last, it was recommended to continue with refresher training because of the new infrastructure constructed and to strengthen local capacity and motivation.

The activities in this proposal are deliberately targeting the weakest aspect of the implementation process to ensure sustainability of the soft and hard ware to guarantee continuous WASH behavior change and strengthening an enabling environment to support the enhancement of School-WASH development. This proposal aims to present an efficient intervention program to support the sustainable use and maintenance of the constructed sanitation blocks, water connections, and hand wash facilities at 34 schools in Chimoio, Manica, Gondola and Beira with 88.587 (number of children increase from 77.300) that will be able to practice good hygienic behavior at school which will lead to decreased prevalence of WASH related diseases.

This project is targeting 34 schools that benefitted in the first phase of the F4W programme. The objective of this proposal is to make additional investments at 34 schools to strengthen the sustainability. Because of an increase in the number of children at these schools, an additional number of 11.287 will be reached.
