Contexte
According to the ministry of water and irrigation, about 30% of the households in Kajiado are estimated to have limited access to potable water. Namanga and Mashuru districts are not endowed with diverse water resources. However, extensions with a view to improve access to piped water from boreholes has been limited by the prohibitive cost making it the most expensive water in the districts. Mashuru and Namanga (Kajiado central) districts’ inhabitants are semi-nomadic pastoralist Maasai community. Kajiado County is classified as ASAL area in Kenya. Hydrologically, the area is criss-crossed by numerous ephemeral streams which have the potential for ground water recharge for use during the dry season. In order to address the main WASH issue for the target group, sustainable, participatory and low-cost approaches towards water resource management would deem viable. In realization of the potential, an inventory formulated will form basis for implementation of the sand/sub-surface dams.

Objectifs
The overall objective of the feasibility study will be to evaluate the existing sand dams and access the feasibility for sand dam implementation in Mashuru and Namanga districts in Kajiado county.
