Acte Sept was founded in Bamako in 1994, a few years after Mali had first become a democracy. In the light of the new-found freedom of expression, the association aims to contribute to Malian culture and encourage the development of its members through artistic and cultural activities. ’Acte’ in the name of the association refers to the organization’s perseverance, range of actions and to its vividness. ’Sept’, seven in French, is a combination of the numbers three and four. In Malian philosophy, three refers to men whereas four relates to women. The man and the woman are united in the fight for culture.
