Résumé
This research was initiated with the foremost objective of investigating the groundwater-related subsidence in Libya where Sarir field was chosen to be the study area due to the availability of data throughout a long period (i.e. 1975-2009).Literature was accumulated in the field of water hydrology together with groundwater-related subsidence and comprehended. Data was assembled. Abstraction so as drawdown data in Libya fields were assembled where Sarir Basin (350,000 km2)was chosen to be the study area. Also, data about the geotechnical sediment properties, the production, drawdown data and the aquifers hydraulic parameters were assembled and analyzed. Moreover ; measurements (i.e. testing of samples of the clay layers at different depths) and studies were executed to relate the ground subsidence to the drawdown. Additionally, the water balance so as hydrological properties, in the study area, were studied and scenarios were proposed. A numerical model was chosen (i.e. Modflow), calibrated and applied to simulate the steady so as transient state in both shallow so as deep aquifers. The obtained parameters from steady state simulation were used to construct the transient state model. The verification of transient simulation was achieved by using the historical groundwater decline and historical exploitation for the period 1975-2009.The model was tooled to predict the drawdown and land subsidence after 50 yr. Based on the investigations, some conclusions were deduced. For example, the values of horizontal hydraulic conductivity, vertical hydraulic conductivity, maximum drawdown, maximum computed land subsidence, Specific Yield, Storage Coefficient, elastic skeletal specific storages, inelastic skeletal specific storages, predicted drawdown and landsubsidence were determined. Also, some recommendations for future extraction strategies were given forward.
