Présentation
The four-year Environment and Climate Change Response Project addresses Botswana’s environment and natural resource management challenges thereby promoting sustainable development. It ultimately supports Botswana to realize NDP11, Vision 2036 and the Sustainable Development Goals. Recognizing Botswana’s vulnerability to climate change, the trade-offs between economic development and the environment, weak environmental compliance, weak use of data to inform integrated decision making, lack of environmental coordination at policy and implementation levels, and unsustainable land management practices, the project will focus on the following strategic interventions : 1. Develop /revise selected environmental and sustainable development strategies and policies to be responsive to new and emerging development trends, issues and challenges. 2. Support the Ministry of Environment Natural Resources Conservation and Tourism (MENT) to a) identify challenges in the implementation of environment policies and programs at national and sub- national levels, b) support the development of an action plan to address the challenges, c) support the implementation of the plan. 3. Support the Ministry of Environment with a) consult to agree what SD goals, targets and indicators are relevant for Botswana, b) the integration sustainability and the environment related SDGs, targets and indicators into the ministry’s plans at national and sub- national levels, c) the implementation of specific environment related SDGs targets and indicators and d) the establishment of a monitoring and evaluation systems for monitoring progress of SDG implementation. 4. Facilitate and partner with government and the private sector to a) adopt private sector sustainability principles, b) develop and implement a private sector sustainability award system, c) identify and pilot domestic mobilization of sustainable finance, d) integrate SDGs into businesses 5. Support the development of options based on research and analysis for sustainable utilization of natural resources and ecosystems key to Botswana’s development while simultaneously strengthening the policy-science interface. 6. Develop proposals for resource mobilisations that respond to emerging development and environmental trends and prepare analytical/policy articles as needs and opportunities arises. 7. Pilot the good examples of environment practices using virtual training methods with the view of replication in districts. 8. Strengthen the capacities to manage, coordinate and communicate progress of all UNDP supported environment projects

Under UNDP Botswana’s Environment and Climate Change Portfolio, the project is implemented in partnership the Ministry of Environment Natural Resources Conservation and Tourism (MENT) as the primary partner, and through it with other government Ministries at national and district levels, as well as with the private sector, civil society and the academia.
