Résumé
The diversity of medicinal plants in Jordan is relatively high. These plants comprise about 25% of the total flora of Jordan. Sumac (Rhus coriaria L.) is one of these endangered wild plants growing in many areas in Jordan such as Ajlun area. Sumac contains different compounds such as flavenoids compound specially tannins and contain vitamine C, the groung dried powder of sumac fruits used as spice in our food. This study was conducted to determine tannin content in sumac fruits and leaves. Also to determine heavy metals concentration in soil and sumac spice from Ajlun and to enhance sumac seeds germination. Soil and Sumac samples (fruits and leaves) were collected from four locations (Ras Mouneif, Ishtafina, Ain Janna and Anjara) from Ajlun governorate. Tannin concentration was analyzed by HPLC, and there were no significant differences in tannin concentration between the four locations for sumac leaves and fruits. Atomic Absorption Spectromerty (AAS) was used for heavy metals (Cu, Zn, Pb and Cd) analysi for both soil and sumac samples. Results indicated that Cu had the highest concentration in Ishtafina sumac leaves. Also, Ras Mouneif sumac fruits had the highest concentration for Cu and Zn. In soil samples Ras Mouneif soil had the highest concentration for the four minerals. Sumac seeds were separated and enhanced for germination by using gibberillic acid, concentrated sulfuric acid and seed cracking, the results showed that seed cracking treatment had the highest germination percentage.
