Présentation
Persian leopard (Panthera pardus tulliana) is the last remaining species of Panthera genus in Iran and is listed as Endangered on the IUCN Red List. The population of this species is declining rapidly mainly due to habitat degradation and fragmentation, as well as reduced prey population, and direct kills. As a follow up to two previous GEF/SGP/UNDP projects, which focused on the start-up of a Portal for the Persian leopard, formation of a network of volunteers to help in identifying Persian leopard habitats in Iran, and the preparation of a National Plan for Conservation and Management of Persian leopard, this project aims to identify a network of reference regions in terms of Persian leopard habitat and population monitoring, and provide the necessary awareness raising and training. In addition, the project will be linking with a wider community of interested individuals including artists, to support mainstreaming of Persian leopard conservation in Iran.
