Kenya

Titre : Future ready secondary school scholarships : Mathare slum in Nairobi (Kenya)

Pays : Kenya

Durée : January 2018 – December 2022

Objectifs
The five-year project aims to provide 25 high potential young people (aged 13 to 20), living in the Mathare slum in Nairobi, with a secondary education and the personal development and vocational skills to contribute meaningfully to society. Individual scholarships will offer each of the 25 students full financial coverage for tuition fees, room and board, transport, uniforms and other miscellaneous expenses at secondary boarding schools that demonstrate good academic results and diverse extracurricular activities. At each school break, the students will be required to participate in a school break program that complements their formal education. The program includes entrepreneurial and small business skills, resume building and interview skills, sexual and reproductive health, self-esteem and motivational sessions. After graduating, the youngsters will follow a 3-month computer training course and have the possibility to participate in 2-week to 4-month job shadowing assignments to gain practical experience and insight into potential careers. An active Alumni Association provides further support after graduation. High achievers can access university through Kenyan government “Direct Entry” loans.
