The overall objective of the project is to substantially increase production and productivity of rice and develop effective and profit oriented national and regional value chain enterprises with strong private sector participation. The program aims to improve the livelihoods of 2 million smallholder households (direct beneficiaries). This program is expected to increase rice production and productivity by at least three folds to substantially increase smallholder farmers income and to reduce poverty and food insecurity. The project will catalyze and sustain an inclusive Agricultural Transformation to improve food security and livelihoods of the smallholder rice farmers in each Beneficiary country. The project will support several entry points : (a) breeding, (b) Good agronomic Practices ; (c) improve Post-harvest practices for drying, milling and processing to reduce losses and maintain quality ; (d) Policy -by encouraging adoption of sustainable practices ; (e) markets ; (f) Contract farming by internalizingsustainability standards in production contracts between traders and rice producers.
