Résumé
In view of the small numbers of catchment-scale results from both the Mediterranean and elsewhere in the world and their wide variability, however, it is difficult to draw any firm conclusions about relative sediment yields. (6) Although, conventionally, erosion is expected to reach its maximum during the first year after wildfire and decline thereafter (Fig. 1), in several of the studies inTable 1 highest erosion is delayed until later, indeed in some cases much later, during the window of disturbance, in the third and even the fifth year after fire (Mayor et al., 2007 ; Bautista, 1999, quoted in Pausas et al., 2008 Llovet et al., 2009 ;Table 1). This reflects the high variability in rainfall intensity and annual totals in the Mediterranean and the often slow rate of vegetation recovery such that soils can still be relatively devoid of a protective vegetation cover and susceptible to erosion for years rather than months after a wildfire. "
