Climate Change adaptation amongst the San of Nyae Nyae and Na Jaqna Conservancies (Namibia)

Namibie

Titre : Climate Change adaptation amongst the San of Nyae Nyae and Na Jaqna Conservancies (Namibia)

Pays : Namibie

Date : November 2014 - October 2017

Objectifs
* The overall objective of this project is : "to adapt land use to reduce the vulnerability of San communities in Nyae Nyae and Na Jaqna Conservancies to the impacts of climate change". It aims at taking an integrated approach to the management of the conservancies’ natural resources to reduce the vulnerability of San indigenous communities in the Conservancies to the impacts of climate change. This means re-assessing, and where necessary changing the land use, in order to reduce late hot fires and prevent over-grazing while supporting the local community in adapting their livelihoods to ensure their survival.

* The specific objectives of the project include planning on a broader scale than previously undertaken and including an increased number of stakeholders and factors into account to ensure the best balance of land use and improved resilience to climate change. The specific objectives also expand on the planned grazing and herding project that has been underway for over 3 years in the area as well as introducing new, proven approaches in conservation agriculture and preventing late, hot seasonal fires that destroy the local environment as well as producing damaging CO².
