Résumé
The dissertation attempts to show that problems of desertification and environmental degradation cannot be deliberated in physical and technical terms alone, but must be viewed in the context of a wider process of agrarian change. Desertification may be just the ecological sequel of what are essentially political-economic processes whereby agrarian communities are incorporated into wider systems of production and exchange.
