Résumé
Studies of several researchers in the field of the geomorphologic quantitative analysis proved the importance of employing modern technological methods in extracting the morphometric characteristics of the river drainage networks as regards its speed and high precision. The study aims to analyze the characteristics of Wadi Faria Basin as one of the semi-arid basins in Palestine. To achieve this goal the basin and the river network were derived using the digital elevation model (DEM) 30 m and by using Geographical Information Systems (GIS), which presented in GlobalMapper11 and ArcMap10.1 softwares, then specify the subcatchments, their spatial shapes and topographical characteristics were defined in addition to the morphometric characteristics of the river network of the basin as a whole and the sub catchments by using ArcHydro13 program and coming out with a group of maps for the basin based on the digital data-base extracted . The study found the building of a database for the morphmetric characteristics and getting all the morphometric measures concerning the basin as a whole and the subcatchments. The study showed a difference in the basin characteristics despite its small area, This differences are attributed to the climate, geology, surface and soil. The shapes characteristic study showed that the basin tends in its shape to elongation and taking the triangular shape. Based on the analysis of many of the terrain coefficients especially the relative relief and ruggedness number in addition to Constant of Channel Maintenacne parameters showed that the basin is highly terrainous in most of its parts and it is still at the beginning of its geomorphological cycle and the value of Hypsometric Integral was 68,8% which indicates that the basin is in the youth geomorphological stage. The study of the characteristics of the river network showed that the basin consists of 1105 streams falling in six orders according to Strahler (1957) classification to which Horton laws can be applied in the area and lengths with a drop in the value of the drainage density and the river repetition of the basin.The study of the coefficient factor analysis of 27 morphmetric variables showed that the most effective factors in the characteristics of the basin is the basin dimension factor, shape factor, terrain factor and the river network factor respectively. Finally the study made a number of recommendations including the need to use the digital elevation models and the employment of the geographic information systems in deriving the river drainage networks in Palestine based on accurate digital morphometric database for these basins. It also recommended to conducting studies for the river basin in Palestine to understand their characteristics to a manner deeply.
